Daviess County Parks & Recreation will host the inaugural Lambert Pioneer Christmas at Yellow Creek Park on Saturday, December 3, 2022.
Make plans to attend this event with your family and experience the magic of the Jim Lambert Pioneer Village at Christmastime!
Families are asked to pre-register for the Children’s Outdoor Pioneer Ham/Biscuit Breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Contact the Parks Office at 270-685-6142. The breakfast is provided by the Daughters of the American Revolution: General Evan Shelby Chapter.
Throughout the day, heritage frontier trades will be on display, including quilting, soap making, blacksmithing, wool penny crafts, and high wheel bicycle displays.
Additional activities include: American Mountain Man programs, pioneer games, a petting zoo, and community tree decorating along with live Christmas music.
A food truck will be on site from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch.
Families are invited to take holiday photos with the backdrop of the pioneer village, the Owensboro Wagon or the high wheel bicycles. The log cabins will be utilized for a self-guided Twilight Tour that runs from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
“One of the greatest legacies that Jim Lambert left the citizens of Daviess County is the historical component of this Pioneer Village with native log homes that existed throughout Daviess County,” said Parks Director Ross Leigh.
“Interpreters will be present in each structure to detail the history of the family that lived in that cabin as well as to demonstrate what Christmas was like in the mid-19th century,” he added.
Personal flash lights or battery-powered candles are recommended but no bright LED lights are allowed.
Yellow Creek Park is located at 5710 Kentucky Highway 144, just east of Owensboro, Kentucky.
