Dozens of organizations are receiving support from the Governor’s Nonprofit Assistance Fund. He appeared at Owensboro Regional Recovery on Monday, February 13 to make the announcement.
“We are going to be celebrating the investment of more than $4.6 million in your local non-profits,” Beshear said. “Let me tell you something really special about your county. That’s 66 awards. I don’t know of another county that has had as many individual awards.”
“You have so many incredible people, leading incredible organizations that are serving the lost, lonely, and left behind, meaning we can be there for our brothers and sisters in need,” he concluded.
The funding is from the American Rescue Plan Act. One-time direct relief payments are based on each organization’s application. Click here to see a list of the awards.
“We are using these funds to do what we do best,” explained Jeremy Stephens, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity. “We are going to build affordable housing for people in this community. Instead of one large project, we are spreading it across many. One of those people who will be blessed most is Tinisha McHenry.”
“It is hard work. Don’t let anybody tell you otherwise,” McHenry said. “We have to do sweat equity hours. We have to build our homes. They teach you disciple and finances. And now I get to bless my son with a forever home.”
Leaders say the awards will not only aid in the recovery from lost revenue during the pandemic but will allow them to improve their services.
“We are all in a collaboration, working together here in Owensboro to make each and every non-profit successful,” concluded Steve Winkler, Executive Director of the Cliff Hagan Boys and Girls Club.
