Solid Waste Department Accepting ‘Trash for Cash’ Applications

The Daviess County Solid Waste Department is accepting applications for the “Trash for Cash” program, a fundraiser for non-profit organizations.

Each year, the Kentucky Division of Waste Management provides litter abatement grants to counties that express interest in clearing trash from public roadways.  Eligible groups must be federally recognized as 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organizations located within Daviess County.

At a minimum, groups are assigned 5 miles of county roadway at a rate of $100 per mile.  The rate and mileage vary each year depending on grant funds received from the Commonwealth.

The county provides road caution signs, safety vests, trash bags, gloves, water and free disposal.

Approved groups may schedule clean-up days between February 1, 2021 and December 1, 2021. There are eight slots available per weekend on a first come, first serve basis.

Group leaders can choose a date that works best for their organization, and the Solid Waste Coordinator will select the roads to be cleaned.

Applications are due to the Solid Waste Department by the close of business on Tuesday, December 1, 2020. The announcement of approved recipients will be made no later than January 31, 2021.

For questions, contact Mike Hamilton, Daviess County Solid Waste Coordinator, at 270-229-4484 or email mhamilton@daviessky.org.
