The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is modernizing the state’s vehicle information database.
A 40-year-old legacy system will be replaced in early January by KAVIS (Kentucky Automated Vehicle Information System). To allow for the transfer of records, motor vehicle services will be temporarily paused.
The following services are impacted: vehicle and boat registration renewals, vehicle and boat titling and transfers, disabled parking permit issuance and license plate issuance.
Vehicle owners due to renew in December are encouraged to do so early before holiday closures.
Online vehicle registration renewal will be unavailable, starting December 28, 2023 with restoration expected the week of January 8, 2024.
At the Daviess County Clerk’s Office, motor vehicle services will be paused by January 1, 2024. The Auto Department is expected to reopen on January 11, 2024.
