Fire Department Stressing Firework Safety Ahead of Holiday

With Independence Day approaching, the Daviess County Fire Department is pushing safety regarding the use of fireworks.

Inspector/Investigator Keith Hurm provides an update from MAD Fireworks-Owensboro at the tent off KY-54 near Alvey Park Drive West.

  • Remember to watch the weather and keep water handy.
  • Be mindful of neighbors, including pets.
  • Always use fireworks outdoors.
  • No one under the age of 18 should handle fireworks without adult supervision.
  • Don’t shoot off fireworks in the street or public right-of-way.
  • If a firework does not deploy, it should be considered dead. Do not try to re-light!
  • Abide by all local and county ordinances.
  • Allow fireworks to cool before clean-up.
