Firefighters Participate in Vehicle Extrication Simulation

Extrication is a critical firefighting and rescue technique used to safely remove patients trapped in a vehicle after a crash.

Firefighters rely on specialized tools like hydraulic spreaders, cutters and other equipment to manipulate the vehicle structure and create access. The Daviess County Fire Department responds to dozens of accidents each year on the Bypass and other busy highways, where extrication may be required.

Firefighter Casey Hamilton provides an update from McCarty’s Pro Towing & Automotive. The crew is removing the doors off a Ford Taurus sedan in a simulation exercise.

Always remember to wear your seatbelt. Drive with care, slow down and move over if you see first responders at work.
