Since January, inmate work crews with the Daviess County Detention Center have collected over 20,000 lbs. of roadside litter.
Jailer Art Maglinger provides an update from the U.S. 60 Bypass near the Audubon Parkway. He says two separate crews are picking up trash in Daviess County.
In partnership with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the first crew is focused on state highways with supervision by Deputy Chris Isbill. The second community work crew, overseen by Deputy Chuck Mattingly, has flexibility to travel around the county and address different issues.
The work crews are comprised of low-level custody inmates, which the state classifies as Level 1 or Level 2. These minimum custody inmates are serving time for nonviolent offenses.
The Detention Center asked for help in two ways:
- Slow down and move over if you see an inmate work crew collecting roadside litter.
- Help keep our community clean. Don’t litter. Ensure that loads are tarped and trash contained while traveling down the road.
