The Solid Waste Department is taking advantage of great weather this week to produce more compost at the Landfill.
It’s a process that starts in the fall, when the City of Owensboro collects the leaves in front of your house.
The leaves are stacked with sludge from the Regional Water Resource Agency (RWRA) and mixed with a SCARAB compost turner.
The compost is then cooked to 145-150 degrees, eliminating the pathogens before the material is screened and available for use in flower beds.
To ensure compost availability, call the Landfill at 270-229-4484.
