Daviess County firefighters are training with a mobile flashover simulator from Fireblast Fabrication and the Kentucky Fire Commission.
The two-story trailer has an on-board diesel generator to provide electricity and computerized controls for propane burners that can replicate a house fire. The burn chamber has a kitchen and living room simulation.
Battalion Chief Jake Cox says the training is performed annually with participation from the Daviess County Fire Department and all 10 volunteer stations. Firefighters are faced with different scenarios in their ground-level entry fire attack, initially spotting flames on a couch and then moving to a full kitchen fire.
Firefighter/Paramedic Casey Hamilton describes the blaze in the kitchen, with flames rolling up the wall from the oven and over the ceiling.
