Pups in the Park to Feature AKC Sanctioned Events

Daviess County Parks & Recreation is excited to announce a new collaboration with the Owensboro River City Kennel Club.

Three American Kennel Club (AKC) sanctioned events will be held September 21-22, 2024 at Panther Creek Park.  The events include Fast CAT®, Temperament Test (ATT), & AKC Fetch.

  • Fast CAT® – which stands for Coursing Ability Test – is a timed 100-yard dash where dogs run one at a time, chasing a lure.
  • AKC Temperament Test (ATT) is a general temperament test that will assess the dog’s reaction to a variety of stimuli.
  • AKC Fetch tests a dog’s ability to retrieve an object (a bumper or ball).

Visit Owensboro and Kentucky DockDogs are bringing a canine aquatics competition to the park that same weekend.  “Pups in the Park” will also feature local rescue organizations, trainer demonstrations, vendors, food trucks, and kids’ activities.

“The addition of the AKC events will provide a huge boost in visitor traffic to the park,” said Jordan Rowe, Director of Parks and Public Information.  “Spectators can watch two days of competition with dogs of all different backgrounds, sizes, and skill levels.”

An event schedule and registration link is available at https://orckc.com/calendar for the AKC sanctioned events.  Questions may be directed to Tina Winston, President of the Owensboro River City Kennel Club.  Email twinston@mascusa.org.
