Daviess County Fiscal Court will submit a petition asking the congressional delegation to include Daviess, Hancock, and Ohio counties in the Delta Regional Authority (DRA).
The DRA was established in 2000 as a formal framework for joint Federal-State collaboration to promote and encourage the economic development of the lower Mississippi River Delta region.
DRA invests in projects supporting transportation infrastructure, basic public infrastructure, workforce training, and business development.
Commissioner Larry Conder noted the Delta Regional Authority was paramount in the Pratt Industries project in Henderson. The $700 million paper mill and corrugated box factory opened in September 2023.
MPO Coordinator Tom Lovett added that the Delta Regional Authority “opens up a whole new pot of money” for economic development projects.
Judge/Executive Charlie Castlen said he’s asked Congressman Brett Guthrie to support this request, and the other counties (Hancock and Ohio) will be submitting similar petitions.
