Two sites are available for Daviess County residents who still need sandbags ahead of the flooding threat.
To collect sandbags, visit Panther Creek Park at 5160 Wayne Bridge Road or the Crittenden Street entrance of Mulzer’s Downtown Yard in Owensboro.
Bring a shovel and be prepared to fill your own sandbags. This distribution will continue until 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 3 while supplies last.
To keep traffic moving on 2nd Street in Downtown Owensboro, please visit Panther Creek Park if a line forms on Crittenden Street at Mulzer.
A second distribution is planned for Friday, April 4 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the same locations.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Daviess County through Sunday morning with 7-10 inches of rain forecast.
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.
Extensive street flooding is possible. Additionally, flooding may occur in homes, businesses and other locations not normally subject to high water.
Continue to monitor weather forecasts and be prepared to take action should flooding develop. Follow Daviess County Emergency Management Agency for updates.
Our thanks to the Mulzer Family of Companies for making the sand and collection site available.
